Overview - Solar Photovoltaic panels
Solar photovoltaic systems generate electricity out of the suns energy. Historically seen as expensive, solar photovoltaic (PV) systems are now not only much cheaper, but they actually generate an income.
How Solar PV works
SOL Photovoltaic (PV) systems are usually installed on south facing roof tops. The systems generate electricity from daylight which is then supplied to your property and the national grid.
Technology has come a long way - you no longer need continuous sunshine to produce clean, environmentally responsible energy. Our units even produce electricity on cloudy days in the middle of winter!
Reasons to install solar photovoltaic (PV) systems
Financial
- You get paid for generating the electricity and you receive an additional payment for any surplus sold back to the national grid. This payment is index-linked for all the electricity you generate over the next 25 years.
- It will add value to your property. What’s more, if you sell the property, you sell the income generation.
- You can save money on rising electricity bills – the cost of buying energy from traditional providers is set to increase substantially
- And if that wasn’t enough, the VAT on solar power systems is only 5%!
Security of supply
- Unlimited fuel supply gives peace of mind amid fears over loss of energy supplies.
Environmental
- Zero C02 transmissions
- Electricity produced using the sun’s energy reduces the amount of energy used from non-renewable resources such as coal, gas, oil and nuclear.
- Produces no noise
What you need
To install a solar photovoltaic (PV) system you'll need:
- A south-facing roof
- A minimum of 3m2 to locate the panels.
- To be the property owner – leasehold or freehold
You should check planning requirements with your local authority, especially if you have a listed building or it is located in a conservation area.
Our assurance to you
SOL Electrical is accredited by the MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme), an independent scheme which certifies products and installers in accordance with consistent standards.
All SOL Electrical installers of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems are City & Guilds qualified.
